Friendly cricket at Purley Cricket Club:
Reading Lions Club - v - Purley Cricket Club

On a fine Thursday evening in August the two teams met at Purley Social Club grounds and each team played 15 overs. Reading Lions and Friends batted first scoring 115 runs. Lion Mike Holloway (Captain) reports the highest scorer was Tim Guttridge with 40. Tim is blind and has played international blind cricket. A special 'noisy' cricket ball is used so that Tim can gauge where the ball is. Watching Tim in action made all aware of sight and how those with it shouldn't take it for granted. Coincidentally one of the most important projects that Lions Clubs promote is sight awareness.
Purley on Thames Cricket Club Chairman Patrick Gee reports their team managed 116 runs with 3 overs in hand, so winning the match.

Lions spokesman Eric Warner thanked all concerned for an enjoyable and fun evening and was pleased to present three cricketing books as prizes on behalf of Reading Lions. Eric said 'we look forward to a rematch next year !'.
